Ghana winger Christopher Antwi-Adjei has disclosed how he reacted upon hearing that SC Paderborn 07 teammate Luca Kilian had contracted the novel coronavirus.
The German Bundesliga has been suspended until 2 April due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Germany’s top tier and the 2.Bundesliga had put off suspending the league, but the late decision means all of Europe’s top five leagues have been halted for the foreseeable future â including the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1.
The decision came just hours before Fortuna Düsseldorf were about to take on SC Paderborn on Friday night.
Paderborn 07 took extensive measures to protect the health of their players and members.
On Saturday morning, team doctor Dr. Hans Walter Hemmen carried out a total of 45 tests in the training center to determine possible infections with regard to the coronavirus where it was discovered that defender Luca Killian had been affected.
Despite missing the matchday squad for the Düsseldorf game due to a thigh injury, Antwi-Adjei was among Paderborn 07 players who were put under a 14-day domestic quarantine by the club.
The 26-year-old narrated how he reacted to Kilian’s predicament.
“This uncertainty is particularly bad. Not knowing if and when you can go back home was a real strain on my teammates,” Antwi-Adjei stated.
“More than hanging out at home, going for a walk and training a bit is not possible. So I'm glad when the test result is finally here on Wednesday.”
