CK Akonnor: Sacked Ghana coach to take home $475,000

Published on: 14 September 2021

Charles Kwablan Akonnor is reported to be entitled to a whopping $350,000 following his dismissal as Black Stars head coach.

Akonnor, appointed in January 2020, was sacked on Monday evening, 20 months into his reign as Ghana coach.

His sacking came exactly a week after the Black Stars lost 1-0 to South Africa in Johannesburg, a result that left them third in the group, with only the winners advancing to the final qualifying round where five representatives for Africa at Qatar will be decided.

When Akonnor was hired he signed a two-year contract worth $25,000 a month.

And since he was fired four months before the expiration of the contract, Akonnor deserves a compensation of $100,000.

However, in the 20 months, Akonnor is owed 11 months arrears that amounts to $325,000 plus $50,000 for being sacked.

Hence, Akonnor is owed $475,000 by the government since they are in charge of the Black Stars coach's salary.

Akonnor won four games, lost four and drew two in 10 games as Ghana coach.
