Clottey set to complete Al Wasl deal

Berekum Chelsea striker Emmanuel Clottey is set to join Al Wasl in the coming days following their exit from the African Champions League.

GHANAsoccernet.com understands that the UAE side have tabled US$1m for the signature of the international striker.

The two clubs have agreed that the striker will leave following the conclusion of their African Champions League (CAF) campaign after Ahly’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of TP Mazembe on Sunday.

Al Wasl are set to complete their foreign quota with the signing of Clottey after coach Bruno Metsu asked the club to seal the deal, insiders have confirmed.

''Clottey is close to signing with Al Wasl after two weeks of negotiations between the two parties. The official announcement of the deal could be in soon,” an Al Wasl official who pleaded anonymity said.

“The contact with Clottey came at the request of coach Bruno Metsu, who is convinced of his abilities.''

Metsu has identified Clottey as his top target and hopes to seal the transfer in the next few days.

The Ghanaian, scorer of 12 goals in this season's CAF, was linked with Roma in Italy, although only Wasl and Al Ahly, the Egyptian club, remain candidates for his signature.

It is understood Wasl will offer US$1 million for the 24 year old, while Ahly are prepared to go no higher than US $600,000, putting Metsu in pole position to land the prolific hitman.

The UAE transfer window is still open.
