Ghana defender Harrison Afful has earned the praises of Columbus Crew manager Greg Berhalter after scoring one of the goals in the Gold and Blacks victory over New York City FC on Saturday.

Harrison Afful scored a sensational volley to level the results after Crew fell down by a goal seven minutes early.

With momentum, Crew SC doubled down just two minutes later. This time, Meram came through on a corner kick to secure his first goal since returning to Columbus. Pedro Santos delivered a back-post header for Meram, who buried the header to give the home side a 2-1 advantage.

After the success over New York City FC, coach Greg Berhalter praised the performance of the Ghanaian right back.

"It was great. It was important. To score seven minutes after they score, good answer. He’s another one that worked really hard, was getting into attacks, had some close calls, some dangerous plays, and was rewarded with that goal. So, I think it’s big," he said.

Meanwhile, Harrison Afful will join the rest of his Black Stars teammates in Ethiopia for preparations ahead of the AFCON qualifier against Kenya.

Greg Berhalter has also been lamenting on the players he will be missing for international duties including Harrison Afful.

"Well we have guys going on international break, and then we’ve got a tough week coming up with a three-game week. So, it’s going to get hectic. We’re losing some guys in training, but we want to continue to have good weeks of training. This is a vital stretch of the season, and you want to get guys in top form as you move towards the end of the season," he added.
