Note: The award was organised by the French soccer magazine 'France Football' until 1994, after which the Confederation of African Football instituted a new award. CAF started its awards in 1992 and we had mixed winners fpr three years.

*1993 Rashidi Yekini and Abedi Pele emerged winners in the CAF and France Football respectively.
