Olympique Marseille star Andre Ayew has been handed the Ghana armband for the 2015 AFCON qualifier against Uganda on Saturday, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The 24-year-old will lead the Black Stars as they seek to their place in the 2015 African football event which will now take place in Equatorial Guinea.

The inspirational son of African football legend Abedi Pele is leading Ghana in the absence of substantive captain Asamoah Gyan who is missing the game with injury.

Andre is captaining Ghana's senior side for the second time since marking his debut in 2007 - the first time was at the AFCON 2012 when he took the armband from Gyan and scored the winner against Tunisia.

Andre is renowned for his leadership qualities as he captained Ghana's U20 side to become the first African side to win the FIFA U20 World Cup which was staged in Egypt in 2009.
