CONTE: "A WIN THAT GIVES US A CONFIDENCE AND MORALE BOOST"

Inter picked up three points this evening thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Lukaku, meaning they now sit on top of the league with six points heading into the international break. The Nerazzurri coach Antonio Conte spoke in his post-match press conference: “I said yesterday that a tough game was in store for us. Cagliari is a difficult place to come to, sometimes you need to do the gritty stuff and fight, aggressiveness is needed. Today, there were some good moments and other moments where it wasn’t so good, so improvement is needed. The road ahead is long, but these are the matches which are important to win because they give you a confidence and morale boost.”

He then talked about the group: “In terms of their mentality, I want to underline that I’ve found a group of great and willing lads, and it’s great to work when there’s this willingness. A winning mentality comes about when you begin to win, because through this you understand what you need to do. We want to work on this and these lads want to surprise and improve.”

There were several key performances, Sensi in particular: “Sensi is a player who simply sees and understands football, he gets it right away. He was a little quiet in the first half but then in the second he really took a hold of the game, it was extraordinary. We have a whole host of great attackers, we need to bring everyone to their best possible form. I expect a lot from everyone. From Vecino, from Gagliardini, they all have great potential, Barella too is a complete player. Where can he play? On the inside, on the left, or on the right.”

Finally a word on the summer transfer window, which shuts in just a day: “The market comes to a peaceful close, as we know well that we’re sorted in terms of arrivals and departures this window. I'm happy with the squad, but we obviously know that it can be improved. Through hard work they can all become fantastic players.”
