Accra Great Olympics Great Manager, Oluboi Commodore has proposed that the government should take up the cost of testing players for the coronavirus if the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League will restart amid the pandemic.

The 2019/20 football season has been suspended since March this year due to the coronavirus outbreak with over 11,000 cases recorded and 51 dead.

The Ghana Football Association is engaging its stakeholders and is yet to determine whether to continue or truncate the season.

With pressure on the GFA from some club administrators to cancel the season due to time constraints on finishing the season some officials of the Ghana Football Association have also hinted of the possibility of the season returning behind closed doors as the GFA continues to engage the government and health authorities over the situation.

The return of football will mean Premier League clubs will have to quarantine and test players for COVID-19 which according to report will cost $150 per player.

According to Oluboi Commodore, if the green light is given by the government for football to return amid the coronavirus pandemic then the government should take up the cost of testing for players as well.

“Testing of players, technical team and club officials, the government should take the cost involved. Testing of affected people in the country was taken care of by the government so they should also take the cost of testing the football industry, Oluboi Commodore said in an interview.

The Ghana Football Association is currently engaging its stakeholders on the future of the season and has announced it will take a decision on June 30.

Government is also set to review its ban on sporting activities when it reviews its measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus on July 31.
