Covid-19: Majeed Waris urges GFA to cancel Ghana Premier League season

Published on: 30 April 2020

Black Stars striker Majeed Waris has called for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to cancel the current season due to the continues rise in coronavirus cases in the West African country.

France, where Waris plays his football, has cancelled their top-flight Ligue 1 and other football competitions due to the pandemic.

And Waris wants the GFA to take a similar decision considering cases in Ghana keep rising. As at Wednesday morning, Ghana has confirmed 1,671 cases.

“Yeah, I think it is sensible for that to happen [cancel the Ghana Premier League] because every time I monitor the numbers in Ghana and I have realized that it is always increasing and after the government lifted the lockdown, you can see that it is increasing faster so I think for the safety of everyone, it will be very good to cancel everything,” Waris said.

Waris has made 30 appearances for Black Stars since his debut in 2012 and scored four goals.
