COVID-19 stimulus package: Ex-Sports Minister claims government doesn’t care about football clubs
Joseph Yammin

Former Deputy Sports Minister Joseph Yamin has expressed his disappointment in government for ignoring the football industry in its stimulus package for distressed organizations during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) appeal to government to be considered for the stimulus package to be shared for organization that have been hit by the crisis was unsuccessful as the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) in charge of distributing the funds announced that football clubs were not factored.

In an interview with Accra-based Happy FM, Hon. Yamin remarked that government ignoring football clubs at this moment shows that they do not care about the them.

“It is very disappointing government not to consider football fraternity Is very bad. The government doesn’t care about the industry if not they would have made plans for the Ministry,” Yamin told Happy FM.

“The Sports Minister has failed in that regard, the Minister should have something in place even without the help of the government for the clubs. For instance a contingency fund in the budget where they can support the clubs during these times.”
