The President for Division One side New Edubiase United, Abdul Salam Yakubu says the politicisation of football in the country should be quelled as the government is doing it best to ensure football returns when it safe amid the pandemic.

Football has been suspended in the West African country since March this year due to the coronavirus outbreak with Ghana recording over 15,000.

The government directives in easing restrictions on measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus has seen football which is categorized under contact suspended till July 31.

According to Abdul Salam Yakubu, the government cannot be pressured to allow football activities to restart as the coronavirus lingers on.

"People should stop politicising with our football. The government has done nothing wrong to our football. It's rather protecting us from contracting the virus", he told Ashiaman TV

"Many African countries have cancelled their leagues, even those leagues with better sponsorships have cancelled theirs, why putting unnecessary pressure on the government to bring football back?, he quizzed.

He added: "Our system is not good to play two matches in a week. We should stop the league and go to Congress. Some are even accusing the minister of not restarting the league ".

The Ghana FA is set to make a decision on the future of the 2019/20 Ghana Football season on June 30 on whether to truncate or continue with the season.
