D'AVERSA: “IT WAS IMPORTANT TO PICK UP THE THREE POINTS THIS EVENING”

Published on: 14 January 2020

Following Parma’s 2-0 victory over Lecce, the Crociati coach Roberto D’Aversa spoke to journalists in the press room at the Tardini.

“It was important to pick up three points tonight because we were playing a direct rival, I have to say that the lads did well despite there being some difficulties, but this is normal in Serie A. In the end, they did well to get the win.

“As I said yesterday, Lecce have been on a similar journey to us: they’ve won two league titles in a row. Therefore, it’s not too surprising that they might be finding it difficult to make the step up: eight of their eleven starters were part of the team that won Serie B last year. However, I would like to compliment Lecce because they play proactively and cause problems for their opponents. This year, Serie A is really difficult: there aren’t any teams who are adrift, so the lads deserve even more credit because they’re doing great things.

“I think that the guys demonstrated maturity to pick their moments and try to bring home a result with the maximum amount of balance, because it’s often the case that the desire you have after a game like the one in Bergamo against Atalanta can result in you trying to bring home a result at all costs and giving opportunities away to the opposition. From this point of view, I think the team interpreted the game in a mature manner.

“Kurtic is a big player, we already knew this. Obviously, he’s just arrived and still need to understand certain situations, but he did well tonight. My main wish is to have all the players I have at my disposal in top condition: today, Roberto played despite not being fully fit, with this also applying to Grassi and Scozzarella. I want to try to get these lads into the best possible shape, both physically and mentally.”
