De Bruyne closes in on return

Published on: 08 December 2018

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne will return to training next week.

The 27-year-old has not played since injuring his left knee in the EFL Cup win over Fulham in early November.

De Bruyne has endured an injury-ravaged campaign after helping his country reach the semi-finals of World Cup 2018.

He has only featured in five matches for City, who remain unbeaten in the Premier League after 15 games, as he suffered lateral collateral ligament damage in his right knee in August.

Guardiola said: "I think he will be back training in maybe one week.

"I said many times, I'd like to have Kevin available, but we try to not put pressure on one player and instead on everyone involved to make a good team.

"He is coming back. Sergio [Aguero] also in the next few days and weeks. Kevin was incredible last season but [Ilkay] Gundogan and Bernardo [Silva] have been outstanding.

"He will see the pressure. My target as a manager is to bring out the best in them and that is the best thing."

City play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening and are 1/1 to win the game with Gundogan 9/2 to score at any time in the encounter.
