De Bruyne raring to go

Published on: 18 December 2018

Kevin De Bruyne says he is desperate to get some minutes under his belt for Manchester City as he aims to propel their quest for silverware.

The Belgium international has been beset by knee injuries this season, with two separate issues limiting him to just six appearances for the Citizens.

However, he returned for the last 20 minutes of Saturday's 3-1 win over Everton and could play some part in Tuesday's EFL Cup trip to Leicester.

I'm not looking to play a good game, just run without stopping.

The holders are 1/3 to win at the King Power Stadium, with the draw after 90 minutes 19/4 and Claude Puel's men 17/2.

With games against Crystal Palace, the Foxes and Southampton before City welcome Liverpool on 3rd January, the 27-year-old's return is certainly timely.

Pep Guardiola's men are 7/4 to retain the EFL Cup, a trophy De Bruyne has won twice during his time at the club.

After such a frustrating campaign to date, the former Chelsea man admits he is desperate to get back on the pitch and show what he can do.

"I just need some game time," De Bruyne told the club's website. "Against Everton, I came on and just ran for 20 minutes. I'm not looking to play a good game, just run without stopping.

"That gives me a good boost physically and lets me get my lungs open for the next game. I'll work hard to get back as soon as possible but I don't put pressure on myself.

"I've had two big injuries and I worked hard to be back, to play a little bit feels good, feels comfortable so that's the main thing."

City are 2/5 to retain the Premier League, while they are 3/1 to lift the Champions League for the first time.
