Defender Jerry Akaminko is eager to impress Ghana boss Kwesi Appiah after earning a call-up into the national team.

The 24-year-old has been rewarded with a call-up into the Black Stars after impressing 27 times at Maniaspor this season.

Despite the side’s relegation from the Turkish top flight, the ex-Heart of Lions captain was phenomenal as he put up solid performances at the back.

The Fulham target is thrilled with his return to the national team and remains optimistic of making an impact.

“To be very honest with you, I am very happy to be in the team and hope to impress my new boss,” Akaminko said.

“There is no bigger pride than to play for your national team. The task ahead is huge but I believe we can go to high places.

“The players that have been called up are fantastic and surely everyone will be fighting for a place in the final squad.

“And so I will also do my best to ensure I get a place in the team with determination and focus.

Akaminko was voted Ghana’s best defender on the domestic scene in 2008.
