Delneri: Hellas Verona paid for mistakes against Carpi

Published on: 20 March 2016

Hellas Verona coach Luigi Delneri acknowledged his side’s shortcomings in a 2-1 loss to Carpi on Sunday afternoon while insisting they must perform to the best of their abilities for the rest of the season.

The loss leaves the Gialloblu rock-bottom of Serie A, eight points below their nearest rivals and the 65-year-old was left pondering what could have been.

“We must continue to honour Serie A and play the best we can against all our remaining opponents,” Delneri told reporters.

“This match may have been decisive in determining our future. We paid the price for a few individual errors.

“Now we can only try for a miracle and demonstrate that, without certain situations, we could have stayed in Serie A.”

Verona have notched just two wins this season on their way to 19 points, with relegation to Serie B next season all but assured.
