Atalanta defender Merih Demiral vented his frustration on Instagram after he was elbowed by Salernitana striker Milan Djuric. ‘Received a yellow card after this!’
The Juventus-owned centre-back was left bleeding heavily from his eyebrow and had to be substituted at half-time in the game that Atalanta went on to win 1-0 at the Stadio Arechi.
Referee Paolo Valeri opted to book Djuric for the foul, but the official and VAR considered it to be largely involuntary and did not take further action.
This infuriated Demiral so much that the defender received a yellow card for dissent.
The Turkey international showed off his wounds on Instagram Stories, with a caption that read: ‘Received a yellow card after this..!’
The image made clear that he had to receive stitches just above his left eye.
Atalanta won the match at the Stadio Arechi thanks to a late Duvan Zapata strike, meaning Salernitana have now lost all four Serie A games this season.
