Denizli: Galatasaray tried to stop Lazio from scoring

Published on: 19 February 2016

Galatasaray coach Mustafa Denizli has said that his team focused on preventing Lazio from scoring goals in their 1-1 draw on Thursday night in the Europa League.

The Aslanlar opened the scoring thanks to Sabri Sariolglu’s goal but the Gala tactician wanted a clean sheet and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic dashed those hopes with the equaliser. Despite this setback, Denizli was happy with the system he used in the first leg of this Europa League tie.

“Our goal for this match was not to concede a goal,” Denizli said in the post-match press conference.

“When Lazio scored, we were a bit off the ball but at the end it still ended 1-1. I studied Lazio a lot and I deployed the best formation.”

The Turkish giants will travel to Rome for the second leg next week and although he reckons the second leg will be tough, Denizli is confident that his team can give the Aquile some headaches.

“For both teams it will be difficult. The Biancocelesti play better away than at home. At the Olimpico, we will make life difficult for them,” Denizli concluded.
