Denmark star garnering interest from Liverpool and Aston Villa

Mikkel Damsgaard’s Euro arrival

The European Championships were an opportunity for plenty of players to put themselves in the transfer window and to earn themselves a big move this summer.

Some have already achieved that with Rui Patricio joining Roma from Wolves, Joachim Andersen joined Crystal Palace from Lyon and Gini Wijnaldum signed for PSG just to name a few.

One player who is yet to move but did have an impressive Euros was Denmark’s Mikkel Damsgaard.

The Sampdoria attacking midfielder became a key part of the Danish squad and took on the responsibility in the attack left by the unfortunate loss of Christian Eriksen.

He will most likely be remembered for his free kick against England at Wembley in the semi-final which unfortunately wasn’t enough to send them through in the end.

However, his performances have led to increased interest.

Liverpool and Villa eye Damsgaard

The interest has grown throughout the continent but specifically two Premier League sides have been credited such as Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Italian media claim that the duo in addition to Spurs are tracking the Dane.

Villa could do with an attacking midfielder should Jack Grealish leave for Manchester City. Damsgaard is young and possesses good chance creation and goalscoring potential from midfield, a perfect CV to replace the mercurial Englishman.

Liverpool meanwhile will be looking to add depth. With Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both possible departures, Damsgaard could fill that spot with a view to a potential starting place in the future.

With Spurs having just signed Bryan Gil, another young attacking midfielder, it would make little sense to add another similar asset.
