Atalanta striker German Denis ended his spell at the Bergamo-based side in fitting fashion against Sassuolo, as he got himself on the scoresheet, and shared a heartwarming message for La Dea’s supporters before the match.
With the 34-year-old expected to seal a move to Argentine outfit Independiente as soon as Monday, the meeting with the Neroverdi will prove to be his last appearance for the club.
The man affectionately known as El Tanque, posted a heartfelt farewell to the city and its people before the game on Saturday afternoon.
“Dear Bergamo,” he began.
“I don’t know where to start, maybe it is best to start with a huge thank you. My family and I have always been very well received here and we will leave a piece of our heart here.
“I will always hold a special bond with this city. This is a place that I grew to love and allowed me to find who I truly am.
“Thank you for what you have given me. You allowed me to grow as a person and for that I am eternally grateful.
“Thanks to Atalanta. Starting with the Percassi family who are absolutely dedicated to this club.
“A special thanks to the fans; you are truly unique. I have always believed that and I will desperately miss celebrating with you, running and screaming toward the Curva.
“I spent some intense years here that were full of excitement and satisfaction. I loved every minute that I wore and fought for these colours, always honouring the shirt and what it represented.
“This is not a goodbye, but a see you soon. You have become extremely important to me.
