Desailly faces uphill task for Ghana coaching post

Ex-France captain Marcel Desailly faces an uphill struggle to land the Black Stars coaching post after the Ghana Football Association named stringent criteria for the vacant post.

The criteria include achievements in the coaching field, experience, personality, and qualifications.

While the Ghana-born former AC Milan defender had an illustrious playing career, he is yet to land any coaching position.

He recently started his coaching course with the Wales FA near Cardiff and he is expected to qualify after his final exams in April.

With no experience and achievements in the coaching field, the criteria set out by the GFA could prove tricky for Desailly.

“We agreed on very clear criteria like professional qualification of the applicants, coaching experience, exemplary achievements and personality traits,” Fred Pappoe, Ghana FA vice president, said.

“There are other things we can know when talking to the candidates. We interspersed it with a lot of due diligence but that is still ongoing.”

Ex-Portugal coach Humberto Cuelho, Serbian Goran Stevanovic, Ghanaian Herbert Addo, and Desailly are the names in the frame.

They are seeking to replace Milovan Rajevac who opted not to renew his expired contract after taking the Black Stars to the quarter final of the World Cup.
