The lawyer Angelo Pisani is the man who saved Diego Armando Maradona from the clutches of the Italian tax authorities by giving the 'Pibe de Oro' the opportunity to return freely to Italy without the risk of having his earrings or Rolex torn off his wrist for tax evasion.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with MailOnline Pisani, still in shock, Pisani talks about the sad solitary death of one of the world's greatest footballers and his former client.
Anger is clear in Pisani's voice as he speaks about the event which has dominated headlines the world over this week, with football losing arguably its greatest ever player to step onto the field.
'From what we learn from the media in Argentina he died alone, incredible, that he slept alone without the presence and affection of family members after a surgical intervention,' says Pisani. 'This is crazy.'
Pisani also spoke of the choice of Neapolitan politics to build a statue in honor of Maradona and to name the stadium after him.
The lawyers recalls the most important aspect of the story: the last hours of the former Napoli star's life, which he sees as the perfect photograph of the state of abandonment in which Maradona lived.
'In Napoli he would not have died alone at home. Delays in medical aid will be ascertained but it is not normal that no one slept with him that evening. Everyone tells me that Maradona was alone on the last night.
'I think it's absurd. He had undergone a delicate brain surgery a few days ago. He had just been operated on his brain: he needed to have love"
'His son Diego Junior would have been there near him had he not had Covid, he would have been next to him and would have showered him with affection and love.
'I don't think it was like that in Argentina. Diego Junior must know how his father died. We need to clarify. The boy loved his father and now is suffering.
'Diego fell asleep alone and it is still not clear how he died. In Napoli he had real friends: he would have had the vigil and prayer of supporters outside his home, he would have had everyone close to him if he had chosen to be treated in Italy and in Napoli.'
Pisani recalls how the great affection of Napoli for the footballer has nothing to envy to the love shown by all of Argentina: for Pisani a single city of 2.8 million inhabitants paid greater love than an entire nation towards by Diego.
'Napoli was the only city where Diego was happy. When I think about our video call while running on the treadmill, I feel like crying.
'We had to lose weight together: it was his bet. He gave me such a big smile that I will never forget it. He shouted at me: "Angelone if you eat I see you!".
'It was he who asked how my son was born a few months. It was full of love.'
