Division One League: Rauf Salifu bags hat-trick as Accra Lions silence Agbozome Weavers

Published on: 24 April 2021

Red-hot forward Rauf Salifu scored a hat-trick as Accra Lions twice came from behind to trounce Agbozume Weavers at the Accra Sports stadium.

Salifu's three goals and Oliver Amedor's brilliant effort ensured Lions cruised to victory in an entertaining encounter on Saturday.

Accra Lions started well, creating a couple of chances in the opening minutes but it was the visitors that struck first. Mohammed Issah's freekick gave Weavers the lead after ten minutes.

The hosts dominated but had to wait until the stoke of half time to level after Rauf Salifu expertly curled in a freekick right at the edge of the box.

But the hosts were shocked just few seconds into the second half when Agbozume Weavers capitalise on a slumber start by Lions. Kwadwo Boamah headed in from a cross.

Accra Lions should have leveled immediately after Alexander Agyarkwa won a penalty a minute later, but Rauf Salifu's strike from 12 yards hit the crossbar.

Coach Rainer Kraft brought on Oliver Amedor for Christopher Acheampong and with just two minutes on the pitch the ticker winger leveled for Accra Lions.

Accra Lions took charge of the game with Kelvin Kyei sending in a cross which was beautiful met by the diving header of Salifu.

The unstoppable forward then sealed victory in the final minute after majestically controlling a pass from Fredrick Asante and cooly placing it home.

The hat-trick increases Salifu's tally for the season to 13 goals.
