Donnarumma must choose between his loyalty to Milan and his own ambitions (GdS)

Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma must choose between his loyalty to the Rossoneri and his own ambitions, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Donnarumma’s controversial contract extension in 2017 is set to expire in June 2021 and the player is yet to agree on new terms.

No deal means that Milan will have to cash in this summer to not risk seeing the Italy international leave on a free.

Gigio has always been a Milan player and continuously expressed his love for the Rossoneri, but the more competitive clubs are following his situation closely, creating unrest at Casa Milan.

The Gazzetta dello Sport writes that the contract negotiations are currently at a standstill and the club knows how important it would be to come to an agreement with the young shot stopper.

The newspaper points out that Milan are aware that a sale this summer could be the only other option and fear the price may have dropped to around €25m to €30m, due to the player’s contract situation and the current financial crisis in world football.

With Milan at seventh in Serie A and still at risk of losing out on a place in Europe next season, Donnarumma could contemplate moving on to pastures new to find a more competitive environment.

League leaders Juventus are linked with the Azzurri star, but other top clubs on the continent have also been mentioned as possible suitors for the 21-year-old.
