Ghana FA Club Licensing Board committee chairman Dr Kwame Baah Nuako says it is time the nation focuses on rewarding the national team based on their achievements and not on mediocrity.

Over the years the quest for the Black Stars to end the AFCON trophy drought has seen millions of dollars spent by successive governments which have proved futile.

Dr Baah-Nuako who is the General Manager, sustainability at Ghana National Petroleum Corporation says it is time some radical changes are made to reward structure whereby national teams especially the Black Stars are rewarded for results achieved and not on mediocrity.

“We should move away from a system whereby we are always rewarding mediocrity".

"We have a national soccer team that has won nothing for several years despite spending millions of dollars but we keep on saying it the passion of the nation. It is the passion of the nation yes. However, we have to stop rewarding mediocrity” he told Joy Sports.

“I believe that the funding amount we put into Ghana soccer every year should be a function of the results that they bring” he added.
