Dyche praises Clarets approach

Burnley boss Sean Dyche praised his players for showing their intent by opening the new Premier League season with a 3-0 win at home to Southampton.

Two goals from Ashley Barnes and one from Johan Berg Gudmundsson secured all three points for the Clarets, who failed to win any of their opening five games in the Premier League last season.

The mentality and energy, the will and desire was all there.

That left Dyche pleased with what he had watched, while also making clear that it is only a starting point for what he hopes will be a strong campaign.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I think there is an intent about the group. The mentality and energy, the will and desire was all there. The lads have come in really bright this season.

"The Premier League is a tough league and you are always looking to push the odds in your favour and it is a great starting point if you have a fully fit group of players who are very motivated.

"We've worked as hard as we can in the market with our resources, which we always know is difficult, but I think we've found a good balance to get the team a competitive edge.

"It culminates in a big win, a very important win, but there is a long way to go."

Next up for the Clarets is a trip to the capital to take on Arsenal next Saturday, with the visitors 11/2 to secure a draw, while a 1-1 final scoreline is available at 14/1.
