Ebo Mends has emerged as the front-runner for the AshantiGold coaching job, MTNFootball understands.

The Obuasi-based side are on the market for a new coach after they parted ways with Yaw Acheampong and his assistant Kamara Dini on Tuesday.

Reports say the club's former defender Kofi Amoako has been appointed to take temporary charge for Sunday's visit to New Edubiase United.

Mends has been available since resigning from Asante Kotoko in November 2011 after only five months in-charge.

The US-trained coach has Ghana Premier League experience after coaching Berekum Arsenal for the 2009/2010 season.

AshantiGold are sixth on the league table; six points behind leaders Aduana Stars.
