Egypt FA to bid for the hosting of the CAF Champions League remaining fixtures

Published on: 12 July 2020

The Egypt Football Association are preparing a bid to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the hosting of the remainder of the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League.

Due to the coronavirus crisis, CAF intend to organize the semi-finals and finals of the prestigious competition in one country to be able to complete the season.

The football governing body had initially planned to stage the remaining matches in Cameroon but the country's government has rejected it citing weather conditions and lack of proper measures to combat the deadly disease.

The Egypt FA got approval from the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Saturday and will be applying for the hosting rights of the competition in the next two day.

CAF are expected to make official announcement on the venue for the CAF Champions League remaining matches in the coming weeks.

According to close sources, United Arab Emirates are interested in hosting the event and have already made an offer to CAF.
