Elisha Owusu swats aside 'empty stadium' excuse after KAA Gent's opening day loss against St. Truiden

KAA Gent defender Elisha Owusu says playing behind closed doors is not the reason they lost to St. Truiden in the opening day of the Belgian Jupilar Pro League.

The Blue and White lads started the 2020/21 campaign on a stuttering note after losing 2-1 to Sint Truiden at the Stayen Stadium on Sunday.

The game was played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus crisis.

When quizzed whether playing in an empty stadium was a major factor in the loss, the French-born guardsman vehemently rejected the claim.

He believes his side went second best on the day and need to prepare well for the next game.

“There are no excuses, with or without an audience, we have to do our job. Now we shouldn't get nervous, but we shouldn't be blind either. It was no good. Point. What to do now? Just reflect and go twice as hard," Owusu said as quoted on the club's website.

Gent will host KV Kortrijk on matchday Two of the season on Saturday, August 15.
