Elmina Sharks midfielder Jay Asamoah Kola has been handed a one-year suspension by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee following an act of misconduct during a Division One League match against Swedru All Blacks United FC on February 16, 2025.
Kola was found guilty of physically assaulting the referee after being shown a red card. According to the match report, the player aggressively confronted the official, leading to an altercation that disrupted the game. The referee’s report and video footage were used as evidence in the case.
In addition to the one-year suspension, the committee warned Kola that any further misconduct would result in harsher sanctions, including a lifetime ban from Ghanaian football. The decision aims to reinforce discipline and protect match officials from abuse.
Elmina Sharks have also been instructed to educate their players on proper conduct and respect for match officials. The club has the right to appeal the decision but must do so within seven days.
