ENGLAND/ STOKE CITY, Coates: \"We were interested in Saido Berahino\"

Published on: 02 February 2016

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has revealed the club made a play for Saido Berahino on Transfer Deadline Day but it was rejected by West Brom.

The 22-year-old striker was also wanted by Newcastle and Tottenham but West Brom stood firm in their ‘not for sale’ status.

“We were interested in Saido Berahino, but he wasn’t for sale,” Coates told TalkSPORT.

“We made an enquiry and we were told the position by West Brom, and we respected that decision.

“I’m glad we were given the right information, because nothing happened and he’s still at West Brom.”
