Erik ten Hag agrees deal to become Manchester United manager

Erik ten Hag is set to be confirmed as the new manager of Manchester United on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth.

90min reported earlier this week that Ten Hag, who was established as the club's favoured managerial target following a process of interviews, was close to finalising an agreement with the Old Trafford club - who sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November 2021.

United had hoped to at least internally finalise their managerial decision to move into next season by Easter. Indeed, this appears to be how it will play out, though no official communication is expected before Ajax play rivals PSV Eindhoven in the KNVB Cup final this weekend.

Ten Hag has been assured that he will have sufficient say in 'all areas' he wishes. He has been told in talks with United football director John Murtough that the structure in place upstairs at Old Trafford is now based on a continental system, with the manager's input going into all decisions regarding incomings, outgoings and contract renewals.

The 52-year-old Dutchman has agreed terms and is happy to proceed.

In an ideal scenario for United - and if the process with Ten Hag proves to work - the club anticipate a potential renewal of his contract after two years, even while the first agreement will be for three years with an option for a fourth.

The expectation is that official confirmation will come following Ajax's game on Sunday, with the Dutch giants hopeful of ending speculation over Ten Hag's position so they can focus on the end of the season. The deal could even be signed the day after the final.

Ten Hag could potentially leave Amsterdam with a domestic double to boast, with Ajax four points ahead of PSV in the league with five games remaining.
