EURO 2016 - ITALY 0-0 R. IRELAND – Halftime report

Published on: 22 June 2016

The Republic of Ireland team will feel unlucky to still be level after a dominant first half against already promoted Italy in their Group E match, especially because Ireland were seemingly robbed of a penalty opportunity in the 44th minute. Daryl Murphy played the ball to James McClean in Italy’s penalty area. The Irishman shaped to shoot, only for Barzaghli to elbow him in the back and shove him over with his hip. However the ref did not award the penalty!

The half ends with boos towards the ref and McClean’s language doesn’t appear to be very clean as he walks off the pitch in a rage.

Throughout the half Italy controlled more possession but Ireland did more with the possession they have, consistently pressuring Italy’s defence and challenging keeper a few times.

The game is in anyone’s hands at the minute, however if the first half is anything to go by, Ireland want it more.

Italy 0-0 R. Ireland
