Everton manager Roberto Martinez says Ghana winger Christian Atsu has enriched his squad for the season.

The Toffees snapped up the 2014 World Cup player on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

Last week, he was an unused substitute when they drew 2-2 at Leicester City in their season opener.

Martinez would not rush his introduction to the English Premier League but delighted with his progress on the training ground.

"He's doing really well. I think Christian is such an intelligent footballer. I think when you see a player at such a young age, you worry if he can adapt quick enough,” Martinez said.

"With Christian it has been incredible the way he understands the surroundings. He can interact with his team mates so quickly and the type of player he is, he's going to be such an important player for us.

"He brings such a completely different dimension for us. To have a left footed winger, who can play on both wings and he can play through the middle is a good opportunity and a good option for us.

"We are just making sure he is fully adapted and ready to perform on the pitch. If we can get Christian to enjoy his football on the pitch, we are going to have a lot of enjoyment out of him."
