Kwesi Appiah has been sacked as the Black Stars coach

Former Deputy Sports Minister under the NDC government, Joseph Yamin has disclosed that former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi was behind the sacking of Kwasi Appiah after the 2014 World Cup and not ex-president John Mahama.

In Kwasi Appiah’s Book titled “Leaders Don’t Have to Yell” he revealed that he was sacrificed after the 2014 debacle in Brazil.

“Kwasi Nyantakyi called me to his office that day and informed me that he had been asked by the President of the nation to relieve me of my duties. When decisions about the national team staff became that heavily-politicized, it was very clear to me that the political machine was flexing its muscles to make me a scapegoat”, Kwasi Appiah said in an interview on his sacking after the World Cup.

Joseph Yamin in response to the revelation made by Kwasi Appiah on his sacking said, the government rather supported him as head coach of the Black Stars during the World Cup.

“It was the Ghana Football Association led by Kwesi Nyantakyi that called for his sacking. The government supported him and he carried on as the head coach of the Black Stars throughout the World Cup ", he told FOX FM.

Yamin further said, if he had attended the book launch he would have been disappointed to have heard those comment made by Kwasi Appiah.

"I couldn’t make it to Kwasi Appiah's book launch but if I did, I would have been disappointed in myself for attending.

“His comments in his book (about the Brazil World Cup debacle) are without proof and it's very unfortunate. I think his handlers have made him sound more political than as an academic person of coaching", he ended.
