Ex Ghana players threaten to invoke curses on Black Stars over delayed fulfillment of Presidential pledge
Ex Ghana players have threatened to invoke curses on the Black Stars if the presidential pledge to reward them for their feats in the Africa Cup of Nations are not honoured by Wednesday.
Ghana President John Mahama announced the setting aside of a GHC 1.7m cash package to be shared amongst members of the past Black Stars squad that were victorious in winning the four African Cups for the nation.
The pledge was made by the president during a state dinner to officially send off the Black Stars prior to the 2014 World Cup.
No move has since been made to fulfill this promise as they nation still struggles to come to terms with Ghana’s shameful first round exit from the World Cup in Brazil.
The ex players, led by Rev Osei Kofi have issued an ultimatum to the government to honour the promise made by the president on Wednesday or else prepare to face their collective curses they will be invoking on the Black Stars.
“We have not heard anything else since that pledge was made and therefore I am taking the initiative to go to the President himself to deliver the curse,†Osei Kofi told Peace FM.
“We are not kids, the Black Stars took $100,000 at the World Cup but what did they bring?
“If any of us die before the pledge is honoured we will reject it.
“We are waiting until Wednesday, if we hear nothing, we will invoke curses on the Black Stars team.â€
The Black Stars have struggled to win any piece of silverware since their last triumph at the African Cup of Nations in 1982.
Some Ghanaian soccer fans believe the team’s winning chances is being affected by the several unfulfilled promises made to past Black Stars squads who brought honour to the nation.
The belief is that, until measures are taken to satisfy or redeem the several pledges made to ex players, the current Black Stars squad that enjoy huge financial rewards even for playing friendly matches will never be successful in their pursuit for titles.
