Ex-Ghana star Tanko open to coaching back home

Ex-Ghana striker Ibrahim Tanko says he will accept a coaching job in the country only when he has garnered enough experience on the touchlines.

Tanko has been appointed to join the coaching crew of Bundesliga side FC Cologne after assisting Volker Finke at Urawa Red Diamonds.

The former Borrusia Dortmund player who holds a Uefa License A certificate has not ruled out the possibility of returning home to coach.

"At the moment it's important I stay here and gain experience and so when I decide to take up a coaching job in Ghana, I will be more prepared and better equip for the job," Tanko told Accra-based Happy FM

"It could be one of the local teams or any of the national teams. The opportunity given me here at Cologne is huge and want to concentrate on that at the moment but it also means when I get back I should have acquired the necessary qualification to take up any job I deem fit."

The former King Faisal attacker is the chief scout for the German side at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Sudan.

Tanko hopes to pick up his Pro license certicate when the season ends in May.
