Ex-Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako joined Hearts of Oak because of his new born baby - Agent reveals

Yusif Chibsah, the agent for Hearts of Oak new signing Gladson Awako has revealed that his client opted to join the Ghana Premier League champions because of his family.

Gladson Awako completed his move to join The Phobians from city rivals Great Olympics in the ongoing transfer window.

The 31-year-old had an impressive season with the ‘Dade Boys’ which saw him earn a call up to the Black Stars during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Awako got the chance to make his senior debut against Sao Tome and Principe at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup winner after the season had received numerous offers from clubs but chose to join Accra Hearts of Oak.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based radio station Pure FM, Yusif Chibsah, a former Ghana International disclosed that Awako chose to stay home because of his baby.

“Awako wanted to join Hearts of Oak. There were offers from foreign clubs for him but he had his own reasons. He has a baby who is less than a year old and he wanted to stay close to the family,”.

Awako is one of the most decorated footballer in the current Ghanaian domestic scene after winning the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Super Cup with the DR Congo giants TP Mazembe.

The former Berekum Chelsea midfielder is expected to play a vital role in Hearts of Oak’s CAF Champions League campaign.

The Phobians have commenced training as they prepare to face Guinean side Industriel de Kamsar in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
