Former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has given his opinion on the development of football talent in Indonesia.
Essien, who spent a season with Persib Bandung in the Indonesian top-flight league during the 2017/18 campaign, believes the country has potential young players to make a mark on the international stage.
"When I and my friends played in the Under-17 World Cup national team, we agreed who among the players on the team who did not play abroad was a failed generation," Essien said on BolaSport.com
The 36-year-old also compared young Indonesian players with Ghana.
"This is what distinguishes young Indonesian and Ghanaian players or other African players. Playing abroad will raise careers both in terms of technique and mentality. Don't think of a big salary. It will kill you," Essien added.
