Former president John Rawlings paid a surprise visit to the Olympic team on Friday ahead of their clash against Nigeria in the All Africa Games qualifier.

Rawlings, who was on his way to the National Delegate Congress of the ruling National Democratic Congress in Sunyani, was at the Golden Tulip Hotel to spur them on for Sunday's tie.

He said: "This is a very important game for us and I believe with right attitude and determination you can get the needed goals to qualify to the championship."

"We have absolute trust in your abilities and that of the coaches and if you listen to them, the sky will be the limit for us."

The famous ex-president Rawlings also visited the Ghana national team in Kenya in March en route to beating Congo 3-0 in Brazzaville in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Ghana's qualification hangs by a thread as they need to score two unanswered goals to advance.
