Covid-19 has ravaged Ghana's squad for the Kirin Soccer Cup in Japan, with five players testing positive, Ghanasoccernet.com can report.

Gideon Mensah, Osman Bukari, Dennis Odoi, Elisha Owusu, and Kamaldeen Sulemana have all been infected with the deadly virus and will not be able to compete in the four-nation tournament.

Mensah has left the team's camp, Ghanasoccernet.com can confirm.

Coach Otto Addo has to make do with a depleted squad for the tournament, which is part of Ghana's preparations for the 2022 World Cup.

On Friday, June 10, Ghana will play Japan, with the winner facing either Chile or Tunisia in the final.

The loser will compete in the bronze medal match, which is scheduled for the same day as the final, June 14.

The virus was contracted by the players in Angola, where Black Stars played the Central African Republic in the second match of their qualifying campaign.

Mensah, Bukari, and Kamaldeen were all involved in the match, but Odoi and Owusu were unused substitutes as the Black Stars drew 1-1.
