EXCLUSIVE: DC United decline option to sign Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Abu

Published on: 01 December 2020

Major League Soccer side DC United will not exercise the option of signing Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Abu, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively report.

Mohammed Abu joined United early this year on loan from Norwegian side Valerenger with an option to ink a permanent deal at the end of the season.

But the MLS side did not include the Ghanaian in their roaster for 2021, having spent most of his time on the sidelines due to injury.

"The club has declined 2021 contract options on Mohammed Abu, Earl Edwards, Jr., Oniel Fisher, Felipe Martins, Gelmin Rivas, and Axel Sjöberg," a statement on the club's website read.

"We want to thank the players who will no longer be with the club for their commitment and service to the Black-and-Red. We wish them the best of luck in the next chapter of their careers," said Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations.

The former Right to Dreams Academy graduate also played for Columbus Crew in the MLS.

He previously had spells with Manchester City, Stromgodset, Rayo Vellacano, Lorient and AGF.
