Ghana defender John Boye has emerged as the main target for Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively report.

The centre back, who currently plays for Turkish outfit Sivasspor, has been one of the stand out performers in the second-tier league after scoring six goals in 47 appearances.

According to multiple reports from the US, Timbers are on the lookout for a new defender when the transfer window reopens in July.

Boye, who turned 30 on Saturday, has a wealth of experience at the top level in Europe.

The former Heart of Lions player spent six years in France from 2008 to 2014 with Ligue 1 team Rennes, both playing with the B team and with the first team.

Boye then moved on to Turkey where he joined third tier side Kayseri Erciyesspor on a free transfer.

After an impressive season in the 2.Lig Kirmizi, Boye earned a move to newly promoted Süper Lig side, Sivasspor, on another free transfer in 2015.

The defender has made 59 appearances for the Ghana national team, and has been a regular starter for the Black Stars since making his debut in 2008 with 5 goals to his credit.
