EXCLUSIVE: Former Ghana U17 defender Najeeb Yakubu gets Niger national team invitation

Former Ghana U17 defender Najeeb Yakubu has received a call-up to the Niger national team for their upcoming international friendlies, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The 21-year-old fullback has been included in the Mena list which was released on Thursday by coach Jean-Michel Cavalli for this month's friendly matches against Mozambique and Niger.

Yakubu played for Ghana at the U17 World Cup in 2017 in India where he played a crucial role for the Black Starlets having played in all 5 matches.

Ghana reached the quarter-finals stage of the youth tournament losing 2-1 to Mali.

The talented left-back has been in consitent form for Ukrainian side Vorksla Poltava since joining in September 2018.

Despite his invitation to the Niger national team, Yakubu won't be available for this month's matches following Russia's invasion in Ukraine.

Yakubu made 16 appearances in the Ukrainian Premier League before it was halted because of the war.
