Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku has returned to training after months out due to an injury, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively report.

The 23-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament tear just before the start of the season and he was expected to be back next year, but the Amiens center has started light training.

GHANASoccernet can report that Opoku was involved in some ball training and will have to go through a series of rehabilitation programmes before he return to active football.

Opoku picked up an injury while playing for Amiens in the Ligue II against Rodez last season, but returned to fitness before the end of the campaign.

He was then named in Ghana's squad for the international friendlies against Morocco and Ivory Coast.

He picked a knock in the match against the Atlas Lions in Rabat and failed to recover for the Ivory Coast match.

He has been a big miss for the French club and the Black Stars following his outstanding displays for both teams.

He scored his first goal for the Black Stars of Ghana in the AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome in March.
