EXCLUSIVE: Ghanaian midfielder Lamine Mohammed joins Portuguese side UD Oliveirense

Published on: 14 July 2020

Ghanaian midfielder Lamine Moahmmed has joined Portuguese LigaPro side União Desportiva Oliveirense, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively report.

The 20-year old defensive midfielder signed a three year deal with the second tier side after leaving Slovakian outfit AS Trencin.

The former Accra Lions player is making a huge step in his career moving from Central Europe to Portugal, where his chances of making it into the best leagues in Europe is even brighter.

The swashbuckling midfielder made a handful of appearances for Trencin, but his performances were convincing enough to attract Oliveirense.

Mohammed's move to the club is seen as a major coup for the LigaPro outfit, who are preparing a strong team for next season as they battle for top-flight promotion.

He joins goalkeeper Arthur, defender Pedro Machado, winger Sele Davou and striker Miguel Silva as the club's new reinforcements.

Despite his enormous qualities as a defensive midfielder, Lamine Mohammed is also revered for his versatility as he can play wide on the left and even further in midfield.

UD Oliveirense were 12th on the league table before the season was halted due to the outbreak of COVID-19, but the club has returned to training and the midfielder is expected to join the team as preparations for next season begins.

With his experience from the Slovakian top-flight, Mohammed will be expected to play a vital role in the club's campaign next season.

Ghanaian players have enjoyed success in Portugal, with the likes of Joseph Amoah and Alhasan Wakaso playing big roles for Vitoria Guimaraes. Bernard Mensah, Emmanuel Boateng and Wakaso earned big moves to bigger leagues plying their trades in Portugal.
