Nania FC is the latest to withdraw from the novelty Glo G8 competition, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

This is a major blow to the competition which starts on Saturday following the impressive exploits of the Division One club in the FA Cup competition which they won.

Everyone was waiting in anticipation to see whether the high quality soccer displayed by the club in the FA Cup would be replicated in the G8 competition but this won’t happen as the club’s President Abedi Ayew Pele has now confirmed the decision to opt out of the tourney.

“Yes, we have decided to withdraw from the competition and we have made this known to GHALCA,” Abdei Pele exclusively told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“We started our pre-season training just last week and the conditioning of the boys at the moment is not up to the level for competitive matches.

“You know we were the last to finish the season, as clubs were on holidays, we were engaged in competitions and it was important to give our players extensive rest so they come back fresh for the new season.”

An emergency meeting has been called by GHALCA to find a replacement for Nania and a statement to that effect is expected this evening.

The number of clubs in the competition now stands at seven and includes; Berekum Chelsea, AshantiGold, Medeama and Aduana Stars.

The rest are Liberty Professionals, Heart of Lions, New Edubiase and Ebusua Dwarfs.
