Facing Niger on neutral ground not an advantage for Ghana - Partey

Published on: 09 September 2024

Black Stars captain Thomas Partey has downplayed the notion that playing Niger on neutral ground will benefit Ghana as they seek their first win in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana is set to take on Niger in their second Group F match on Monday at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco.

Due to CAF declaring Niger’s facilities substandard, the match will be held in Morocco, leading many fans to believe that avoiding a hostile environment will work in Ghana’s favor. However, Partey disagrees.

"I don't think there is any advantage there [in playing the game in Morocco]," Partey told SuperSport. "It all depends on how we approach the game. If we go with the approach to win, we go there to win because there are a lot of good players now and you can't underrate anyone."

Partey remains confident in the quality of the team and the ongoing project under coach Otto Addo.

"I believe in all the players that come in the team; young and the quality that they have. I think all they need is our support and the support of every Ghanaian. I see from training the quality and I am really sure it's going to be massive."

The Black Stars are aiming to bounce back after their 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium last Thursday. Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
