Kuala Lumpur: Penang star Faiz Subri is set to find out on Monday if the brilliant free-kick he scored during a Malaysia Super League game in February has won him the 2016 FIFA Puskás Award.

The accolade which is awarded to the player, male or female, judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant, or "most beautiful", goal of the year, will be announced at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Zurich.

Faiz scored twice against Pahang at the Bandaraya Stadium to inspire his side to a win, but it was his swerving set-piece that saw him become a household name overnight.

The talented 29-year-old has been shortlisted along with midfielder Marlone of Brazilian club Corinthians and Daniuska Rodriguez from the Venezuela U-17 national women's team from an initial list of ten nominees that included Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Previous Asian players to have been nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award include Japan’s Kumi Yokoyama and Hisato Sato, as well as the Australian duo of Lisa de Vanna and Tim Cahill.

FIFA.com users are still able to vote for their favourite goal, with the results of the second round added to the first to determine the overall winner who will be revealed on the day of the ceremony.
