Famous 64 battalion squad of Hearts to feature in Attuquayefio charity game

Members of the famous 64 Battalion squad of Hearts of Oak have confirmed their participation in the Jones Attuquayefio Charity match.

The game which will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday is in acknowledgement of the immense contribution made by the former Ghana international and coach to the game of football.

It will be recalled that the Hearts of Oak team in the late 90’s and early 2000’s popularly known as ‘The 64 Battallion’ made a clean sweep of trophies on both the local and continental scene under the tutelage of the charismatic Attuquayefio.

Goalkeeper Sammy  Adjei, Eben Dida Armah, Jacob Nettey, Amankwah Mireku, Ishmael Addo who were key players in the squad have all given their firm commitment to the match and pledged to play as Friends of Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio in the said charity game.

Sammy Adjei has hailed the initiative as part of his contribution towards the project which is aimed at honouring the coach, raising funds to support him as well as the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

“We are all aware of the state of health of our dear coach and participating in the game will be one of the greatest contributions to him.” He said.

“I am looking forward to this day and I appeal to all fans of the club to patronize the the game to enable the organizers meet their target for the project.”

The game will see “Friends of Attuquayefio” made up of both former and current players in likes of Togolese star Emmanuel Adebayor, Sammy Adjei, Emmanuel Osei Kufour, Jacob Nettey, Godwin Osei Bonsu, Bobie Ansah, Charles Akunnor, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Mahatma Otoo, Joe Ansah, Michael Helegbe, Bernard Kumodzi, Samuel Affum, Amankwa Mireku, Ishmael Addo, John Painstil and Asamoah Gyan against the Black Stars who will be parading the likes of goalkeeper Daniel Agyei, John Boye, Isaac Vorsah, Daniel Opare, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, David Addy, Anthony Annan, Rabiu Mohammed, Kwadjo Asamoah, John Mensah, Jerry Akaminko, Prince Tagoe, Robert Dabuo, Richard Mpong and Emmanuel Baffour in their ranks.

Meanwhile, the match organizers, Primeval Consult have made advanced tickets for the game available for sale at some vantage points in Accra to ease the expected congestion at the gates on the matchday.

The tickets are available at the Aiport Shell, Happy Fm, Joy Fm and the Accra Sports Stadium.
